This meet-up will explore how we can take beautiful portraits using natural light and backgrounds. We will explore how to recognise flattering light and how to manipulate it whilst shooting in a less controlled environment than a studio. We will explore how we can work collaboratively with our subject to achieve a portrait that captures their personality and style. We will also look at posing and setting your subject at ease. Technical learning points will include accurate focusing and metering for skin tones. A model is present during the session.

Come along to our meetups to improve your art in a relaxed and social atmosphere, and under the guidance of a professional instructor. Complete beginners to experienced artists all welcome.

Our 2 hour meetups are held in a different location each time, usually outdoors.

Bring your own materials which can be anything from pencils or pastels, to watercolour or oils.

If you are a complete beginner all you need to start are a couple of good drawing pencils, a rubber, and a drawing pad.

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to experienced artists. The instructor is there to help everyone.

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Madison is a visual artist that loves drawing, painting, printmaking, and trying new mediums when time permits. She graduated from the University of Wyoming with degrees in Art Education and Spanish and is passionate about connecting with people of all ages through visual arts.
Originally from Wyoming, she loves getting to know more of the Nashville area and is inspired in her work by landscapes, animals, and the people she comes in contact with.

Magnolia flowers bloom in Nashville from late May until late July. They?re about 12? across. The best ones hide in shade. Magnolia blooms open for pollination about 9:30-10:00 a.m. I capture the image before pollination. Once pollinated magnolia blooms quickly begin turning brown. When I saw the frame I knew I wanted to use it for my Nesting Series. It is usually the other way around. ?Feels like Home? measures 15? x 18? including the frame & 8? x 11? in the painted section. It is an acrylic mixed media painting on wood created with a palette knife & is textured. This painting was a commission for a lovely couple who lost their boy Kirko in January of this year. I was honored to paint a portrait of their boy and his sister to ease a little pain during such a difficult time of loss. My husband Brenton and I took off just before Christmas to the mountains of the Great Dividing Range, following the Snowy River to the ocean. Leska was a well loved Bernese Mountain Dog who lived in Amsterdam. She lived a short life of 6.5yrs where her owners had to make the tragic choice of allowing her to grow her angel wings due to kidney failure. The found out on Christmas Day, they let her doggy friends come to visit and say their goodbyes and the day after Boxing Day is when she flew.This beautiful girl was painted in Faber Castell Pitt Pastels, Derwent pastel pencils, Caran D'ache pastel pencils and Nouvel Carre pastel rods.
